Eat More Veg 2011 EventEat Well Tasmania Inc. were pleased to host the Eat More Veg 2011 event in Launceston on Thursday 27th October, which turned out to be a great success! The event aimed to promote Tasmanian vegetables and showcase the latest projects that Eat Well Tasmania has undertaken; including a large survey on the Tasmanian population and their vegetable consumption, convenient vegetable snack options for vending machines and the 2012 Fresh Produce Calendar. Judy Seal, Principal Advisor on Public Health Nutrition and Population Health in the Department of Health and Human Services, opened the event and set the scene by giving insight into how a small increase in fruit and vegetable consumption impacts our futures, our health care system and the food industry. Allison Clark from Houston's Farm was the key note speaker, who provided an interesting overview on the "challenges of producing and marketing vegetables", while five other key Tasmanian vegetable growers also outlined what their business entails and their passion on increasing vegetable consumption in Tasmania. The event also provided an environment for a variety of sectors to connect and network, including those from the food industry, community organisations, private businesses, government organisations and the Tasmanian public. Eat Well Tasmania Inc would like to thank all those involved and for all who attended on the day. Listen to the ABC Rural Report which featured three Tasmanian vegetable producers from the event.
